Description
Summary:A novel imidazolium salt hydrate of febuxostat (FEB) was synthesized by the solvent drop grinding technique with imidazole (MI). The structure of this compound was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, in which the FEB anions, MI cations and H2O molecules were arranged as a two-dimensional bridge structure through N3H1⋯O2, N4H2⋯O4, O4H4WA···O1, O4H4WB···N2 hydrogen bonds. The solubility of febuxostat imidazolium salt hydrate exhibited a dramatic increase in aqueous mediums. Stability studied under accelerated humidity showed that the novel salt hydrates of febuxostat have a better physical stability. [Display omitted] •A new salt hydrate of febuxostat and imidazole was synthesized.•The crystal structure has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction.•Equilibrium solubility and powder dissolution rates of salt and original API were carried out and discussed.
