Description
Summary:This work aims to study synthesis methods and photoluminescence properties of ZrTiO4. Wet chemical routes used for synthesis are solution combustion method and polymeric precursor method. Urea and glycine are two different fuels used in solution combustion synthesis. Scanning Electron Microscope studies confirms that morphology of the nanoparticles depends on synthesis method. Photoluminescent property depends on the phase of the material, rather than the method of synthesis. Characterization such as X-ray diffraction, SEM, Reflectance and Photoluminescence studies prove the role of synthesis methods on the properties of the ZrTiO4. Both upconversion and down conversion luminescence have been achieved by synthesizing ZrTiO4 from solution combustion method using urea as fuel, where ZrTiO4 exists in mixed phase. •Synthesis of ZrTiO4 by two different routes such as solution combustion and polymeric precursor methods.•To study the effect of fuels in solution combustion method, ZrTiO4 has been synthesized using Glycine and Urea as two different fuels. ZrTiO4 prepared by Glycine gives single phase, whereas urea fuel gives mixed phase. The polymeric precursor method yield ZrTiO4 in single phase.•Photoluminescence studies prove the role of synthesis methods on the properties of the ZrTiO4. Both upconversion and down conversion luminescence have been achieved by synthesizing ZrTiO4 from solution combustion method using urea as fuel. In spite of synthesis methods ZrTiO4 in single phase does not provide any luminescence peaks.•It can be concluded that material in mixed phase can be considered as a good candidate for Photoluminescence applications.
