Description
Summary:•A novel dielectric method is proposed to observe the unwinding of helicoidal structure.•Negative and positive temperature coefficient of thermistor is identified in liquid crystals.•Dielectric relaxation studies in smectic C* and smectic X* phases are studied. A sequence of hydrogen bond ferroelectric liquid crystals (HBFLC), derived from Camphoric acid and alkyloxy benzoic acids display a variety of mosogenic polymorphism with various smectic ordering like C*, X* and G*. FTIR spectra and dielectric relaxations in smectic C* and smectic X* are studied. A new method to elucidate the helicoidal structure variation with temperature through dielectric investigations is discussed. Thermistor which exhibits both positive and negative temperature coefficients is derived from the present liquid crystals and results are also discussed. [Display omitted]
