Summary: | Ag nanoparticles coated with di-
n-octodecyldithiophosphate were chemically synthesized. The structure of the prepared Ag nanoparticles was investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry analysis and differential thermal analysis. The anti-wear properties of Ag nanoparticles as additives in liquid paraffin were investigated by a four-ball testing machine. The coated Ag nanoparticles with an average diameter of about 15
nm, are able to prevent water adsorption, and oxidation and are capable of being dispersed in organic solvents. Wear tests show that coated Ag nanoparticles as additives in liquid paraffin exhibit excellent anti-wear ability and can improve the load-carrying capacity of base oil effectively. |
