A simultaneous increase of elastic modulus and ductility by Al and Li additions in Mg-Gd-Zn-Zr-Ag alloy
This short communication presents a new Mg-12Gd-1Zn-0.5Zr-0.5Ag–6Al–5Li (wt.%) alloy with high elastic modulus of 52.0 GPa and excellent ductility of 22.5%. The high modulus of alloy is due to the formation of high modulus Al2Li3 and Al2Gd phases, and its excellent ductility can be attributed to ref...

Summary: | This short communication presents a new Mg-12Gd-1Zn-0.5Zr-0.5Ag–6Al–5Li (wt.%) alloy with high elastic modulus of 52.0 GPa and excellent ductility of 22.5%. The high modulus of alloy is due to the formation of high modulus Al2Li3 and Al2Gd phases, and its excellent ductility can be attributed to refined grains, decreased c/a ratio and initiation of non-basal slips. |
