Summary: | The comprehensive mechanical properties of 2219 Al-Cu alloy transition rings having diameters of 10 m or more require augmentation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the warm-rolling temperature on the microstructural evolution and the mechanical properties of large 2219 Al-Cu alloy rings. Results indicate that the suitable warm-rolling temperature range was above 200 ℃. Compared with the original 240 °C rolling sample, the grains of the 200 °C rolling sample were considerably more refined and equiaxed, which led to increased elongation in all directions, but the uneven grain structure caused local stress concentration, limiting the improvement of mechanical properties in the radial direction. The Cu content in Al matrix of the 200 °C rolling sample was significantly increased and more uniform; the distribution of θ′ phases was denser after T8 heat treatment, leading to an increase in strength in all directions. Results are verified by industrial experiments.
