Description
Summary:Calcifying odontogenic cyst was no longer in the category of odontogenic neoplasms in 2017 according to the new World Health Organization classification. A 67-year-old female patient presented with a mild swelling in the anterior mandible revealing a central blister of a yellowish color, with 8 months’ duration. Radiographs and cone beam computed tomography scans revealed a round central radiolucent lesion of approximately 3 cm with the presence of radiopaque material. There was no tooth involvement, and the lesion presented a well-circumscribed border. The patient was referred to surgical treatment, and histology showed fragments of a cystic capsule, with focal area covered by an epithelium with cubic cells. Acanthosis and multiple ghost cells were also observed, some of them with some degree of calcification, accompanied by a diffuse mononuclear inflammatory infiltrate. The final diagnosis was calcifying odontogenic cyst, and the patient is still in follow-up, with no symptoms or signs of recurrence.
