Summary: | Osseous choristomas are rare benign lesions, characterized by ectopic bone formation in the soft tissue. It affects women, occurs preferentially in the tongue, presenting as a solid nodule, sessile or pediculate, smooth with asymptomatic surface. Microscopically it shows the presence of lamellar bone. Treatment is surgical excision, with no recurrence expected. A clinical case of osseous choristoma will be reported, including its main characteristics and the importance of its knowledge in the clinical routine. A 26-year-old female patient attended the stomatology service because of an asymptomatic nodule in her tongue perceived during oral hygiene with a 3-week course. In the intraoral clinical examination, the presence of a normochromic pedicled nodule was observed in the posterior tongue’s dorsum. Excisional biopsy was performed, and the report was of osseous choristoma. Because of the location and appearance of this lesion, it is important that the clinician knows its characteristics and possible differential diagnoses. |
