Summary: | Histoplasmosis is a fungal systemic infectious disease, which affects humans, caused by Histoplasma capsulatum. We report a case of a male with HIV/AIDS, 28 years old, feoderma, referred to the stomatology center with complaining of several lumps in his mouth. The patient was under severe immunosuppression and not adherent to HIV-treatment. Intraoral examination showed a tumor with papillary surface reaching all extension of palate presenting a painful ulcerated lesion in the middle, which has perforated the palate. The clinical diagnosis hypotheses were Paracoccidioidomycosis and Lethal midline granuloma. An incisional biopsy and histopathological specimens, stained with HE, and special colorations with Giemsa (Negative) and PAS (Positive) had led to the diagnosis of histoplasmosis. The patient was referred to treatment with an infectious disease specialist with good follow-up. This case reinforces the importance of stomatology professional in diagnosis and direction of treatment cases of systemic diseases with exclusive presentation in the mouth. |
