Description
Summary:Pyogenic granuloma is a reactive tumor-like lesion commonly affecting the oral cavity. Histopathologically, pyogenic granuloma is classified into lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) and non--LCH. The non-LCH type does not show any such organization and resembles granulation tissue. We report a patient, 41-year-old male, smoker and drinker, without systemic impairment that sought the stomatology center referred to evaluate a lesion in the mouth. Intraoral examination revealed a nodular, smooth, sessile lesion and painless, located on lower gingiva measuring 2.0 x 1.8 x 1.0 cm. Clinical hypothesis diagnostic was any reactive lesions of the oral cavity. Excisional biopsy was performed and the histopathological examination, and the immunohistochemical reaction for α-smooth muscle actin revealed oral fibrous pyogenic granuloma (OFPG). The OFPG treatment involved excision of gingival lesions up to periosteum with thorough scaling and root planning of adjacent teeth to remove all visible sources of irritation.
