Description
Summary:Osteomas are benign osteogenic tumors composed of compact or spongy bone, and may present on the periphery, intraosseous, or within the soft tissues. Peripherals are uncommon, usually present as pedicled bony masses and are more common in young adults. The present study aims to report a case of peripheral osteoma located in the mandibular body of a 32-year-old male, asymptomatic, presenting an aesthetic complaint. A surgical procedure was performed under general anesthesia where intraoral access, osteotomy, and tumor excision were done with about 2 cm in diameter. At the anatomopathological examination, the diagnosis was confirmed and the patient presented no signs of relapse after 1 year and 6 months of postoperative control. The treatment and diagnosis of this pathology should be judicious, since small lesions can be treated conservatively, with periodic observation, in contrast to the large symptomatic tumors or that cause deformities that require surgical treatment.
