Description
Summary:Objective: To analyze the perception and behavior of the pediatrician in relation to oral health and oral lesions. Study design: This is a quantitative research project, performed with pediatric physicians, through a questionnaire with 40 questions sent electronically. Results: From 77 validated questionnaires, only 50 (64.9%) pediatricians routinely examine their patients’ mouths, 72 (93.5%) pediatricians recommend dental brushing after eruption of the first teeth, 30 (39%) pediatricians recommend the first visit to the dentist between 7 and 11 months of age, 22 (28.6%) pediatricians consider the lack of knowledge to identify oral problems or oral lesions as an obstacle to oral health promotion, and 31 (40.3%) pediatricians prefer to guide and treat oral lesions that they can diagnose clinically. Conclusion: Pediatricians are also a precursor of oral health care, and it is concluded that there is a lack of knowledge about oral health care or oral lesions, so it is necessary to better train this professional from a dental perspective and promote integration with dentistry.
