Description
Summary:Objective: Perform a review of the literature on oral squamous cell carcinoma and the associated mortality rates in Brazil. Study Design: This review was carried out using the SciELO, LALICS, and BBO-Odontology databases. Articles from the literature with English and Portuguese language published between 2013 and 2018 were searched using the terms: oral cancer, diagnosis, and associated factors. Articles published before 2013, theses, projects, and productions not related to the subject were excluded. Results: The traditional methods of cancer treatment are: surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. The treatment to be established will depend on the location, histologic grade of malignancy, tumor staging, and the individual’s health condition. Conclusion: The dentist should be prepared to diagnose and deal with patients who have cancerous lesions in order to decrease incidence and mortality rates and thus improve people’s quality of life.
