Description
Summary:Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical epidemiologic profile of the population of Feira de Santana and microregion that had histopathological diagnoses of squamous cell carcinoma in lip. Study design: The medical records of the patients with diagnosis of lip cancer were analyzed in the Center of Reference of Oral Lesions between 2006 and 2018. A total 18 cases were found. The search took place in accordance to the resolution 466/12, being approved by the Ethics Committee on Human Research (CAAE: 0015.0.059.000-08). The results were statistically verified through the Microsoft Office Excel 2007 program. Results: After analysis, it was found that the majority of patients were over 60 years of age (68%). The male sex was the most affected by the lesion (78%). The patients were mostly white (35%). The most affected anatomic region was the lower lip (83%). The most prevalent fundamental lesion was an ulcer (67%). Clinically, there was a predominance of lesions with a rough surface (72%) and a red color (72%). Conclusion: The results corroborate with the literature regarding the age, sex, anatomic location, skin color, and clinical characteristics of the lesion. Studies like these are of great importance for tracing the affected population profile and establish health promotion policies.
