Summary: | A 36-year-old male patient showed up at the buccomaxillofacial surgery clinic complaining of an increased volume in the posterior region of the right mandible. The patient reported having undergone surgery 11 years prior, in the same region, for the treatment of unicystic ameloblastoma. On the physical examination, a slight facial asymmetry, healthy mucous membranes, and no symptoms were found. A panoramic radiography was performed, and it showed a unilocular radiolucent area, very delimited in the right mandibular body, followed by an aspiration puncture that showed a yellow citrine liquid, suggesting a cystic lesion. The treatment was performed under general anesthesia, and it consisted of enucleation, aggressive peripheral ostectomy associated with cryotherapy, and mandibular reconstruction with a 2.4-mm system titanium plate, due to bone fragility. The material was sent to histopathologic analysis that confirmed the diagnosis of unicystic ameloblastoma. At present, the patient has 12 months of preservation and no recurrence of the tumor. |
