Summary: | Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a fungal infection caused by the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, restricted to Latin America and associated with agricultural activity. It mainly affects the lungs and usually presents mucocutaneous lesions, such as ulcers with a moriform aspect in the oral mucosa, which are one of the first signs of the disease. A 66-year-old male farmer, drinker and smoker, sought dental care for multiple lesions with an irregular surface, with moriform aspect, in the region of the palate and upper left alveolar ridge. Chest radiography revealed diffuse radiopaque foci in the lungs, compatible with calcifications. An incisional biopsy and histopathologic analysis were performed, and the final diagnosis was PCM. The treatment was itraconazole 100 mg for 6 months. The patient was referred to a general practitioner and pulmonologist and is being monitored. |
