Summary: | Juvenile ossifying fibroma is a rare benign fibro-osseous lesion that affects young individuals and has locally aggressive behavior with high chances of recurrence. A 17-year-old female patient observed an increase in volume in the posterior region of the right mandible and sought care. Facial asymmetry was observed in the extraoral examination. In the intraoral exam a small bulging in the region of the alveolar ridge was observed. The panoramic radiograph showed an expansive lesion in the mandible with a multilocular radiolucent aspect. Incisional biopsy and histopathologic analysis were performed, leading to a diagnosis of juvenile aggressive ossifying fibroma. For better surgical planning, a prototype was made based on the tomographic image. Complete excision of the lesion and adjacent teeth was conducted, followed by the installation of a titanium plate to prevent fracture of the mandible. The patient has been followed up clinically and radiographically and has been without recurrence for 1 year. |
