Description
Summary:Designs for optical waveguide filters for selecting alternate channels in a dense wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system are described. Each filter consists of a single mode optical waveguide with N equally spaced reflectors positioned along its length. Proper selection of the mirror reflectance values gives flat-top response for both transmitted and reflected channels. Calculated transmittance and reflectance spectra as well as dispersion characteristics for the filters are presented for N as high as 12. In a design example with a channel spacing of 25 GHz, the “usable bandwidth” was 14.1 GHz.
