RGB-based VLC system using 5G NR standard

Description
Summary:We report the implementation of a multicolor visible light communication (VLC) system using the new standard for the fifth generation of mobile networks (5G), the so-called 5G new radio (NR). A red/green/blue (RGB)-based VLC system, employing three light-emitting diodes (LEDs), has been successfully demonstrated in accordance to the 3GPP Release 15 requirements. The system performance investigation has been realized in terms of root mean square error vector magnitude (EVMRMS) and as a function of the LEDs bias current, link length and throughput. Furthermore, digital pre-distortion (DPD) has been successfully applied to the proposed RGB-based VLC system, enabling to attain up to 1.92 Gbit/s.
