Summary:In this study, the tin doped indium oxide (ITO)/metal (Ni, Cu, Ag)/ITO electrodes were prepared on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates for electrochromic applications, in which the Ni, Cu and Ag metal thin films with different thicknesses were prepared employing three different coating technologies, respectively. The various material properties including morphology, grain structure, electrical and optical properties as well as bending property were systematically investigated. The electrochromic performances of applied electrochromic devices (ECDs) with these ITO/metal/ITO transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs) were deeply investigated as well. •ITO/metal(Ni,Cu,Ag)/ITO TCEs were prepared on PET for electrochromic applications.•The Ni, Cu and Ag metal thin films were prepared with three different coating technologies.•The PET/ITO/Cu(2 nm)/ITO/WO3 shows better electrochromic properties.
