Summary: | Abstract Focused on patients all over the world, the Mayo Clinic strives to “heal the sick and advance the science.” In addition to welcoming foreign patients in Rochester, Minnesota, US-based Mayo Clinic staff members take advantage of opportunities to participate in global educational and research activities. Similarly, trainees are encouraged to get involved in international rotations. Arising from specific experiences of members of Mayo's pediatric department, there is evidence of widespread values of global health endeavors. Multinational relationships have been established. Understanding and prevention of congenital malaria have been advanced. The causes, pathophysiology, and therapy of nutritional rickets have been better elucidated. Through participation in global pediatric health activities, individual children are helped, communities' health is improved, and future generations' well-being is advanced. |
