Description
Summary:We perform a detailed analysis on a unique data set of questionnaire, which contains the personal characteristics, social positions, and political awareness of Shanghai New Social Strata (intermediary organizations and social organizations). We construct an invisibility similarity network based on the similarity of political awareness. We find that the personal characteristics and social positions play an important role in forming the invisibility similarity network of political awareness. Surprisingly, it is found that the respondents who are self-reported in high social positions are in the periphery of the invisibility similarity network. Our work sheds new light on understanding the relationship between social positions and political awareness from the perspective of complex networks and may provide a guide in social governance. •We study individual status distribution of new social strata in Shanghai.•We construct and investigate the invisibility similarity network.•Respondents self-reported in high social positions are in the periphery of the network.
