Destruction of the Tokem-308 cation-exchange resin (analog of KU-2-8) by its gas-phase treatment in a nitrating atmosphere
The paper considers a new approach to the destruction of the Tokem-308 cation-exchange resin (analog of KU-2-8). The method is based on the gas-phase treatment of the resin in a nitrating atmosphere, followed by chemical treatment of the conversion products. It has been shown that the treatment of T...

Summary: | The paper considers a new approach to the destruction of the Tokem-308 cation-exchange resin (analog of KU-2-8). The method is based on the gas-phase treatment of the resin in a nitrating atmosphere, followed by chemical treatment of the conversion products. It has been shown that the treatment of Tokem-308 in the NOx–H2O(vapor)–air atmosphere at 403–443 K for 4–24 h with the subsequent dissolution of the conversion products in 0.5 mol/L NaOH and ozonation of the obtained solutions allows an effective destruction of Tokem-308 to be carried out.

•Gas-phase conversion of TOKEM-308 (analog of the KU-2-8 resin) in the nitrating atmosphere was studied.•TOKEM-308 conversion products exhibited high solubilities in 0.5 mol/L NaOH, ethanol and acetone.•Ozonating the solutions of TOKEM-308 conversion products in NaOH destroys organic impurities by at least ∼85%. |
