Summary:Synthesis of novel molecular-engineered Ir(III) complexes and their photophysics in different rigid media are discussed to emphasize rigidochromism. [Display omitted] Three molecular engineered [Ir(N^C)2(CF3pic)] complexes, where N^C are Fppy = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine, ppy = 2-phenylpyridine or Meppy = 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine, and CF3pic = 3-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine-2-carboxylate, are reported to elucidate their photophysical characteristics and emission profiles to emphasize rigidochromism. Their emission in fluid media is ascribed to a lowest-lying 3MLCT (metal-to-ligand charge transfer) excited state with emission quantum yields (ϕ) at room temperature of 0.13 for [Ir(Fppy)2(CF3pic)] and ϕ
