Description
Summary:Insufficient durability and adhesion of coatings are two major bottlenecks that constrain their application in marine environments. In our study, the uniform cerium containing silicon acrylate coatings with excellent bonding strength were prepared on the surface of Q235 steel through electrosynthesis method, and the optimal preparation temperature was 60 °C. The water contact angle of the coating was 108.8°, increased by 76.3° compared with the blank substrate and the corrosion protection efficiency reached 93.9 %. Through scratch testing, the binding force level reached 5B according to the ASTM D3359-09. After being exposed to the natural environment for three months, the coatings' surface shown no corrosion marks, proving that the coatings have a certain degree of stability. The bend test result shows excellent strength of the coatings. The successful preparation of coatings on irregular structures indicates good suitability of the coatings. The synthesis mechanism of the cerium containing silicon acrylate coatings and the effect of temperature on the formation of the coating are discussed in detail. The fabrication of cerium containing silicon acrylate coating on the substrate surface through electrochemical synthesis method can greatly improve the adhesion between the coating and the substrate, thereby extending its service life. This study provides a simple and mild approach to prepare acrylic resin composite coatings with good adhesion, strength, hydrophobicity and corrosion resistance.
