Summary: | The geometrical complexity of additively manufactured parts and the comparatively high densities of the metallic materials used mean that non-destructive testing technologies reach their limits when it comes to post-process testing. In order to still be able to ensure the quality of parts the inspection must be implemented into the build-up process. A suitable technology for this is active thermography, as it can detect defects close to the surface and can use the laser of the manufacturing machine as an excitation source. In this paper, a procedure to identify the thermal reactions of defects in solidified layers and the results for the material 1.4404 are presented. |
