Description
Summary:In this study, the processability of the hot work tool steel AISI H10 was investigated using selective laser melting (SLM). The tool steel was fabricated at different process parameters using a substrate plate heating system to prevent cracking. The microstructure was investigated for defects such as cracks, pores, and lack of fusion. Microscopic investigations showed a fine cellular dendritic microstructure in the as-built condition. Due to the high cooling rates in the SLM process and the resulting residual stresses, cracks were found despite substrate preheating. For this reason, the preheating temperature was adapted. Process parameter optimization including the substrate preheating temperature show crack-free tool steel samples.
