Summary:The study region is located near Braga (NW Portugal), and comprises the Monastery of St. Martin of Tibães and its surroundings. For many centuries, this monastery was supplied by a complex water mine system. A multidisciplinary approach was applied combining several methodologies and techniques, namely applied geology, cartography, hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry. A complete hydrogeological inventory was developed and hydrogeochemical data were acquired in order to evaluate the quality of these groundwater resources. This study helped a better knowledge of these groundwater systems.
