Description
Summary:The investigation of modal behaviour for truck tyres approached in the current paper represents a research field of particular interest for the tyre and vehicle manufacturers, whose permanent concerns comprise the achievement of objectives related to durability of vehicles, tyres and road, comfort of passengers and state of transported goods, improvement of tyre-road contact, reduction of negative influences of tyre vibration modes on ABS performance. The theoretical investigation of tyre modal behaviour involves many difficulties related to the necessity of developing models capable of representing adequately the tyre structure. Complex finite element models for 9.00R20 and 9.00-20 truck tyres have been developed and used for investigation of modal behaviour of tyres without road contact. Thus, the values of resonant frequencies for radial vibrations of tyres have been obtained, as well as the corresponding modal shapes. In addition to these aspects, the current paper brings contributions related to emphasizing the influence of radial construction and, respectively, bias construction of tyres on the radial modal behaviour.
