The extraction of radish seed oil (RSO) with subcritical propane (SP) was investigated. The effects of pressure (6 and 10 MPa) and temperature (303 and 333 K) on the oil yield and chemical composition of the RSO were determined and the results were compared with ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and Soxhlet extractor (SE) using n-hexane. The operating conditions investigated with SP had little influence on the RSO yield; however, the solubility was greatest at 333 K and 10 MPa, which provided 75 % of the SE yield and similar results to those obtained with UAE. RSO showed a predominance of monounsaturated fatty acids, which gives it less susceptible characteristics to auto-oxidation. The tocopherol content was not affected by the SP conditions, while the higher temperature (333 K) favored the removal of phytosterols. The quality of the oil extracted with SP was superior to that obtained with the other techniques regarding the phytosterols and acylglycerols contents and the oxidative induction time. |
