Description
Summary:The urban transport is a complex system involving economy, population, environment and government. Due to the complexity of this system, the approach of system dynamics is adequate for capturing the causal relationship among the variables that interact in this system. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the influence of Brazilian policies in the urban transport system focusing on environmental, economic and traffic variables. For this, we conducted a case study in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (MRSP). The results point to the importance of the policy implementation to reduce the negative externalities of urban transport system. •A framework using the method of system dynamics analyzes the urban mobility in Brazilian cities with policy influence.•The Brazilian Urban Mobility Policy (BUMP) seeks integrate urban planning, transport and traffic.•The BUMP considers the principles of social inclusion and environmental sustainability.•A case study in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo was conducted and the simulation results allows this system improvement.
