Description
Summary:•Research advancements overview of SPR/LSPR based fiber optic analyte sensors.•The review is focused on use of application based fiber plasmonic sensors.•Discussion on probe structures, performances, and results related to experimental work.•Detailed comparison of a number of sensor designs/applications has been presented.•The present technologies and future prospects of related fields have been discussed. This article contains a brief overview of plasmonic-based optical fiber analyte sensor's development over the last ten years. Since detection and monitoring of chemical, physical and biological parameters are highly reliant on optical fiber sensing technology due to numerous advantages. Here we outlined the cumulative introduction, past experimental research work on propagating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) module, then ends with some conclusions and prospects. The recent progress in nano-optics has developed susceptible and label-free optical devices using SPR/LSPR techniques of the metal films and nanostructures. The survey focuses on the significant contribution of applications-based fiber optic plasmonic sensors published in the last decade. We hope this review might provide rigorous and organized literature to researchers/students for the basic understanding, trends, and practical utility of optical fiber plasmonic sensors.
