Description
Summary:Thirty variously substituted benzonitriles and derivatives applied at equimolar exponential rates were evaluated for their phytotoxic properties in nutrient solution. The order of activity of the variously substituted benzonitriles and derivatives was dissimilar to the benzoic acids and phenoxyalkylcarboxylic acids. Several of the materials evaluated were as active as, or more active than 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile [dichlobenil]; namely, the 2,6-dibromobenzonitrile, 2,6-dichloro-β-benzaldoximeacetate, 2-bromo-6-chlorobenzonitrile, 2,3,4-trichlorobenzonitrile, and 2,3,5-trichlorobenzonitrile.
