Summary:Elimination-condensation reactions between Me(Cl{sub 2})B{sub 3}N{sub 3}Me{sub 3} and (Me{sub 3}Si){sub 2}NMe and between (ClBNMe){sub 3} and (Me{sub 3}Si){sub 2}NH form oligomeric borazinylamines, and a metathesis reaction between Li{sub 2}S and (ClBNH){sub 3} produces an oligomeric borazinyl sulfide. The pyrolysis chemistry of these oligomers has been examined, and conditions have been defined that produce hexagonal h-BN. Reactions that model the first stage of oligomer formation also have been studied, and the molecular species (Me{sub 3}N{sub 3}B{sub 3}(Me{sub 2})){sub 2}NH, (Me{sub 3}N{sub 3}B{sub 3}(Me{sub 2})){sub 2}NMe, (Me{sub 3}N{sub 3}B{sub 3}(Me{sub 2})){sub 2}S, and (Me{sub 3}N{sub 3}B{sub 3}(Me{sub 2})){sub 2}O have been isolated and characterized. Single-crystal x-ray diffraction analyses for these compounds have been completed.
