Description
Summary:The sorption and desorption of n-alkanes in polypropylene (PP) particles produced in gas-phase polymerization were investigated. The influence of the pore geometry in these particles on sorption characteristics was closely examined. For that purpose, sorption tests were carried out in polymer with a simplified well-defined pore geometry, as well as in polymer particles with a real morphology. A mathematical model was developed, which explains well the results obtained with the simplified well-defined pore geometry. Then, the pore geometry of the real polymer particles was closely examined, and an algorithm, based only on mercury porosimetry data, was developed, through which the real pore morphology could be transformed to that of the simplified pore. This algorithm enables us to predict sorption and desorption in real polymer particles.
