Summary:I consider the synthesis of high molecular weight, monodisperse polymers starting from small, monodisperse chains end-labeled with DNA ligands. When these ligands are appropriately designed, a two-stage mixing protocol results in a solution of chains of twice the original molecular weight. The process can be repeated to produce larger and larger chains, of essentially biologically precise molecular weights. The design of precision branched, di-, tri-, and multiblock copolymers is possible under a slight generalization of protocol.
