Ruthenium-Catalyzed Direct N-Formylation of Lactams with Paraformaldehyde

Abstract Catalytic N-formylation of lactams was conducted with paraformaldehyde using Shvo’s catalyst. Various lactams were smoothly converted into N -formylimides without the use of a stoichiometric activating reagent.
