Fungal Rhinosinusitis: A Case Report

Introduction: Fungal rhinosinusitis is reported in the medical literature for more than two centuries. However, for the past 25 years, it has received due attention, with increased diagnostic suspicion and improvement of laboratory techniques for detection of fungi. Your rating based on immunological relationship between the fungus and its host and the degree of mucosal invasion, it is important for the selection of an effective treatment and to establish outcome. Knowledge of the type of fungal flora, its prevalence, symptomatic presentation, aspects of the physical examination, and laboratory tests among patients with chronic rhinosinusitis will enable a better understanding of the disease, alerting physicians involved with these patients to diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Objective/purpose: This study aims to relate a case of fungal rhinosinusitis. Resumed Report: The patient (M. A.) presented with fever for 5 days. The patient was treated with antibiotics but without resolution of the picture. Computed tomographic scans of the sinuses which showed signs of fungal rhinosinusitis. The patient was directed drainage of maxillary sinuses with white secretion with blackish spots. Conclusion: The increase in our knowledge and understanding of the fungal disease in clinical suspicion will improve the accuracy of diagnosis and effectiveness of treatment, providing our patients a better prognosis.
