Description
Summary:Aim: To evaluate the endoscopic approach for post traumatic CSF rhinorrhoea in our hospital, the indications, radiological findings, techinque for endoscpic approach and the results in our institute. Materials and Methods: All patients admitted in our trauma unit from Jan 2006-Dec2012 irrespective of age, sex, GCS, associated injuries was enrolled in study. C.T scan was taken at the time of admission and at 72 hours of admission was taken. The number of patients with CSF rhinorrhoea and number of patients for whom Endoscopic closure was done was evaluated. The follow up was a period of three months to two years. Results: Totally there were 175 patients with CSF rhinnorhea . 21 patients were operated by endoscopic approach and two patients were operated by transcranial route. Out of 21 patients operated 19 had immediate stoppage of leak . Two patients had failure, out of which one was reoperated by transcranial route, the other patient was advised transcranial route but refused. Conclusion: Endoscopic approach for Post traumatic CSF rhinorrhoea is the treatment of choice and transcranial approach is indicated only when we plan for craniotomy for associated intracranial injury or if endoscopy approach fails.
