Summary: | Introduction:
Neuroendocrine carcinomas are very rare head and neck malignancies except for some moderately differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas of the larynx which are more represented in the recent literature.
Case Report:
We report a case of a small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the petrous apex of the temporal bone, which is an unusual localization for this tumor and has not yet been reported in the literature. We confirmed the diagnosis of the primary tumor by PET scan. Final histopathological diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. We treated this patient with surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. At the end of treatment, we noticed almost complete reduction of the tumor with no distant metastases. |
