Summary: | Introduction:
Hypertrophic pachymeningitis is a neural disorder that causes progressive neurological dysfunction due to the thickening and fibrosis of the dura mater and subsequent compression of neural structures.
Material and Methods:
Case report, review of literature.
Results:
Based on the case of idiopathic pachymeningitis treated in our hospital, in this report we describe clinical manifestations, differential diagnosis, and the treatment of this disease.
Conclusions:
Although the disease can be associated with rheumatoid arthritis, Wegener's granulomatosis, TBC, and tumors, some cases of idiopathic variety have been described. Since otoneurologic symptoms are often present in patients suffering from pachymeningitis, a number of cases are treated at otorhinolaryngology departments and it is important for ENT clinicians to be familiar with this disease. |
