Description
Summary:Introduction: The endoscopic technique provides the possibility of precise visual representation of a specific anatomical region, which is a prerequisite for the correct surgery. The aims of our study were to conduct anatomical research of the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus by the transnasal endoscopic approach and to determine definition of the landmark. On the basis of this anatomical knowledge, it is possible to perform optimal preoperative planning through detailed analysis of the radiological data. Materials and Methods: The anatomical basis of the endoscopic access was systematically investigated of 10 cadavers. With the endoscopic Tele Pack system (from Karl Storz) and a bimanual surgical technique, we investigated the approaches to the cavernous sinus. Results: Detailed analysis of the anatomy of the transnasal corridor to the sella region on the basis of radiological data allowed the identification of important anatomical landmarks of the surgical procedure in every case. Conclusion: The endoscopic transnasal technique, along with use of microsurgical techniques, provides an excellent opportunity to visualize anatomical structures and pathological processes.
