Summary: | We derive a form of adhesive interaction between protein globules in solution, developing from the premise that amino-acid residues are able to rearrange around a globule–globule contact. We show in this approach that globules only become adhesive above a certain threshold temperature, which is sensitive to an osmotic modulus characterizing individual globule elasticity. Above the threshold, adhesive strength increases monotonically with temperature, driving a temperature-reversed liquid–liquid phase separation. |
