Summary: | An apparatus, which permits routine measurement of internal friction as low as 2×10−7 and Young's modulus as a function of temperature, frequency, and strain amplitude in extremely low loss materials, is presented. The system described herein can be used to investigate a variety of materials and is not hampered by the limitations placed upon composite resonator systems. It has been successfully used to study internal friction in the amplitude‐independent and amplitude‐dependent regions in pure and CaCl2‐doped NaCl. |
