Description
Summary:The rates of the bimolecular and termolecular neutralization reactions of gaseous ions generated from the thallium and lead halides have been measured. The absolute values of the termolecular rate constants are generally consistent with Thomson's theory of ion recombination, although the experimental temperature dependence of the rate constant is somewhat greater than the theory predicts. The bimolecular rate constants are consistent with what is known about the energetics and masses of the systems. A mass spectrometric examination of gaseous ion-neutral complex formation is presented.
