Summary: | The plane steady-state detonation pressure behind the reaction zone of liquid TNT is reported. This pressure of 171.8 kilobars was established by measuring free-surface velocity as a function of plate thickness for 2024 aluminum plates placed in contact with the detonating explosive. The zero thickness metal shock pressure, obtained by extrapolating the free-surface velocity data, is corrected to the corresponding detonation pressure by an impedance matching calculation. Recording was done by a sweeping-image camera technique. |
