Summary: | Quasi-static magnetic field generation due to propagation of a linearly polarized laser beam in homogeneous, underdense plasma, is presented. The magnetic field is generated due to the interaction of a narrow laser beam with plasma, for which the ponderomotive force dominates over space charge force between electrons and ions. In addition, for narrow beams, the longitudinal component of the laser field becomes significant and therefore contributes to the generation of the quasi-static magnetic field. |
