Picosecond-laser-pulse-duration measurements with a low-light-level electro-optic two-photon fluorescence technique

By combining a self-scanned photodiode array and image intensification, a two-photon fluorescent (TPF) pattern has been recorded on-line for single mode-locked Nd-glass laser pulses. Description
Summary:By combining a self-scanned photodiode array and image intensification, a two-photon fluorescent (TPF) pattern has been recorded on-line for single mode-locked Nd-glass laser pulses. Ultrashort-pulse-duration measurements from the TPF readout were obtained on pulse energies as low as 200 μJ. At these low intensities, the TPF peak-to-background ratio was observed to be close to the ideal value of 3 within experimental error for early pulses in the train. Significant reduction from the ideal peak-to-background ratio was observed for pulses approaching 1 mJ.
