Polarization bremsstrahlung spectrum of xenon clusters: detection of the contribution of collective interactions
The first experimental investigations of polarization bremsstrahlung (PB) spectra accompanying the scattering of 0.7 keV electrons by solid xenon clusters for photon energies 80 – 180 eV are reported. Changes have been detected in the spectrum at the transition from the gaseous to the condensed phas...

are reported. Changes have been detected in the spectrum at the transition from the gaseous to the condensed phase of xenon. The maximum of the PB band shifts into the low-energy range and the spectral contour of the band narrows. Model calculations of the PB for xenon clusters are in good agreement with the spectral changes observed experimentally. Collective effects in the solid are found to have a large effect on the PB spectrum. |
