Summary: | In analogy to Rayleigh’s law in magnetism a Rayleigh law of plastic deformation is defined to explain the amplitude dependent internal friction and the modulus defect in materials with high solute concentrations. The forces opposing dislocation motion in a solid solution crystal with high solute concentrations are described with the help of random functions. Using this statistical treatment it is possible to calculate the parameters of Rayleigh’s law of plastic deformation and explain quantitatively the amplitude and concentration dependence of the internal friction and modulus defect in alpha brass. |
